If we want to conserve oil reserves or lower train operating costs, why not electrify more trackage. The investment would be high, but cost savings would be significant, or is electric power too costly here.

Seems like any train video of Europe is mostly electric trains.

Spankybird,

Interestingly I'm right now working on getting some article together for my magazine, the Military Engineer, regarding power stations--coal, hydro, nuke.

If anyone has a favorite power plant they'd like featured in this magazine, I'd be happy to do so, email me at dvergun@same.org.

Coal plants, btw, are numerous along rail lines. I haven't seen too many power plants on toy train layouts, but a coal, hydro, or even a nuke plant like at San Onofre, Calif, which is near the tracks, would be pretty cool.

Good one, I got my 5 year old daughter this morning. I told her she had a snow day so school was canceled!! They're so gullible at that age. Of course here in Buffalo it might not have been a joke since we have had some pretty good snow storms this late in the season.

HI ALL,

News FLASH off the AP

Railroads will have to return to Steam – Coal Powered in order to conserve our oil reserves. This will allow gasoline prices to fall below $1.00 per gallon.

Oh yea
