Agree! I also got the cheap plastic set from ToysRUs. It sucked and still does. On a positive note, I didn't know at the time that Lionel was in business and that crappy starter set got me focused on O scale a couple years ago, and here I am

The Lionel Wall clock and the Alarm clock are cheap and frail. The Wall clock, which was a present, found it's way back to the store. $19.95?

I wish Lionel would be more selective on some of the stuff they put their name on....same thing goes for the cheap plastic sets you find in ToysRUs. It doesn't fit the idea of quality and I think diminishes the name but I am sure Wellspring makes coin from it....

eZak,

Lionel's clock of a few years ago gets my vote for the most annoying toy ever built. Every hour a train races around the clock the number of hours it is, giving a bone-rattling sound that bears no resemblance to a train.

I managed to disable the thing so the clock still works (it was my bosse's clock--he's a Lionel fan; given to him by someone for his birthday).

Stay too busy to tell. I'm doing Bass Pro Shops spring shows for Professional Mariner charger co and BPS. Since I'm "retired", they call and add more shows. Off to Orlando Thursday for the rest of the week. Just got back from Detroit a week ago. Got more to do till middle of May. Got into this helping a friend. They do pay good though. Helps pay for thsoe engines I just bought. Working on flooring big attic so I can clean out a bedroom so I can build layout [full room]. Sent Elliot floor plan ans he designed a great dual level around the room layout. Got garden to do. Mayor Protem for Town and they think I can do Town business fulltime as "you are retired". Thorugh in fishing time and doing private farm pond management [get to fish in them] for a couple of elderly widdows in town. The old famous words, "Don't see how I had time to work." Love it.

Is retirement as much fun as they claim?

Before I retired in November, a guy working for me had a wall clock that a different steam engine whistle blew and it "chugged" away every hour. If my wife would retire [she loves to work and I love for her to work, she stays out of my hair then], no alarm clock would be needed at my house.[:D]

I'm still waiting on the "James Brown" alarm clock. Maybe that will wake my wife up in the morning!

I was really thinking along the lines of a Trainmaster Controlled clock where I could push all the buttons and hear all the sounds.[8D]

I've got a train alarm clock, which I think was made in Germany. It has a continental-looking locomotive (0-6-0), but it gets the job done. Look around a little.

By the way, why not splurge a little and just get operational locomotives outside your bedroom? If I had an operational Big Boy there, I'd never go to sleep [:)].

See you around the forums,
Daniel

I got my dad one of those clocks with the train that goes around at the hour. He took the battery out that controls the noise. To much he said. But otherwise looks good.

Buckeye,

Lionel did indeed make one for there 100th anv.

I have one but it can get annoying at times.

When it is time too wake up a steeam whistle sounds and a small train runs around a track and through a tunnel complete with sounds.

You could probaly check Ebay for one, and maybe modify it to diesel.[:)]

Wouldn't it be about the coolest thing if Lionel or MTH made an alarm clock for you to start your day that included random railsounds/protosounds. One could be awakened to the sound of those big F7s rumbling through your room, horns blasting and wheels screeching. Or for the steam fans, Big Boy bearing down on a crossing the whistle blowing full bore.
