Lionel will have no problem selling the 2000 they need. I have 3 on order. One has been paid in full...I have taken the Acela from n.y. to Boston...What a ride. 150 MPH between New London and Providence...If you have been on it, you would buy it....You can get it for $1679.....and maybe even lower.

I do hope that MTH comes out with an Acela version in their RailKing line. It doesn't have to be to scale and have all the accessories that Lionel claims their Acela will have. Please keep in mind that MTH produced a beautiful
and very affordable version of the AeroTrain. If they can do that, they can produce an Acela. As for Lionel's Acela,
I'll pass.

Ohh!! The price of the Acela is so high. Toy trains (and face it that's what they are )shouldn't cost $2000. I could see spending $200 or $300 for this toy train, but at $2000 Lionel can keep them. Perhaps this is an item intended only for the wealthy.

ALthough i own no lionel engines, due to my ongoing love affair with Weaver, Atlas, Thrid Rail, and K-line, i have to admire them for taking on this challenge. Sure they could have just made a scale copy that did nothing else other than what current engines can do. However they have set a very high bar,a nd i for one hope they succeed. It can only be great for the hobby if they can pull this off. THis is a fantastic time in this hobby, look at all your choices. Heck between those i've mention above, you have Williams, MTH, and Lionel making great product also. I have to good fortune of seeing the Acela at least once a day as it streaks by. She is a beauty, and is well deserving of this honor. Well back to the Trains. LOL Bill
