You can also download them, they are PDF files. I've gone through my files and i see that the diagram for this engine is not super detailed. No view of just the motor components. From the parts list it looks as though these motors were made with parts from the 1661 and 1681 Junior 027 engines. The first of the low end "disposable" toys.

Greenberg once published a book of prewar service manual pages, but as far as I know it has been out of print for years. You might find a copy on eBay or through a used book seller.
Olsen's database seems excellent to me. You can print it a page at a time using "screen print" software or you can buy a CD from them containing the information for $75 or thereabouts.
Hello folks
Can anyone direct me on where to get a parts diagram for a 1689e lionel locomotive. If you know of a publication that has pre-war lionel parts diagrams I would love tp pick one up.
