All of my williams engines are super runners with great paint quality, the freight cars are durable and quality made also, as are the passenger cars, i run all of them and have no problems. They are good for younger people also because of the heavy plastic they are made of and no small parts to break off easily.
Just Trains in NJ have the best prices of anyone; Kirk Mitchell is the owner and is fun to deal with, tell him Jeff in Yorktown, IN sent you! He advertises in CTT and O Gauge RR, also has monthly specials un advertised.

I agree, for the last few years I have bought Williams engines and cars and have yet to be disappointed with anything.

I agree. I just received a Chessie GP-38, and I absolutely love it! I purchased my son a Conrail NW-2 switcher for his 5th BD a few months back. Both engines are great runners. And recently I've been buying up all the Crown Edition boxcars I can find. All in all, great quality at an affordable price.

I agree that Williams is a solid piece of equipment for the price. I have eight Williams engines and donated the ninth to our club layout.

I just received a brochure from Williams where they want you to join their club for $25 and get a free caboose. They also have four coupons for various discounts when you purchase within the guidlines presented. Sounds like a good deal if your in the market.

Anyone have any of their BL 2s? How are they? I have a Williams FM trainmaster and it blasts off like a jackrabbit with a PW Lionel transformer. Tried putting the motors in series, but that just isn't quite as satisfying as the speed range obtainable with a pullmor powered Lionel FM.

I agree with the quality and toughness of these fine engines. I have around 6 or 7 Williams and enjoy them everytime I run them and best yet the newer ones have a lifetime warranty!
As for their rolling stock, I have a few passenger sets. The only problem I have with one of the sets is that the wheelset on the cars are awfully noisey. The set is from the early 90's and I haven't torn them down far enough to see what wheelsets or trucks will fit. Any suggestions?

Also I have ordered out the #2148w set from the Golden Memories catalog. Can't wait till next month when they ship, hopefully! Ordered it through Marty @ Ma & Pa Junction in Baltimore, MD.

I have the FEC BL-2 and love it. I use a TPC-300 on my layout so I can start and stop it as slow as I want.

I just bought a Rock Island BL-2 for $130, at a train show. I'll put it on the layout tomarrow and let you know how it does.
At this price I can add TMCC and still be ahead of the game.

Sulafool, your speed problem is common when using locos with DC can motors and a postwar transformer that has a minimum voltage to the track of 8 volts. The open frame AC motors needed this - the DC can motored engines don't. You could take Razoo's advice or try a Lionel 1033 with the BU setting of 0-11 volts. Also the new MRC transformers will work fine.

For all the excitement that the lastest hi-tech offerings generate from Lionel, K-Line, and MTH, it's great to see there is still a demand for good old fashion basic reliable engines. And in a roadname selection that others haven't even begun to touch - at least at the same quality and price point.

I love some of the fallen flags too - CNJ, PC, EL, RDG, LV, NH are among my favorites.
But it's great to see at least one company putting out some Conrail, Norfolk Southern and CSX in a size that a traditional-sized operator can run.

First impression,

The engine worked fine right out of the box.

It is a good runner and puller.

The paint and decals were flawless.
The only problem to note was that all the windows in the cab were knocked out and laying inside the engine.

I agree with all the comments that have been made regarding Williams engines. I have six, all BAR and B&M. They all run nice, the BL2 appears real close to scale size. It is longer than the GP9. Windows are a problem with the BL2. I prefer a solid one piece widow insert, just for durability. The BL2 doesn't really like 027 track, it tends to uncouple on the sharp curves, on 031 track I've had no such problem.

Williams are fine except for the Seuthe smoke - it could stand improvement or replacement.
