Vanderbuilt tenders for lionel steamers

The Doctor is in[}:)] Why is it that Lionel only makes coal tenders????? I was
raised up on the Southern Pacfic and execpt for a few coal burners, most all
of the steamers were oil burners. I want to model a period when steam was
still strong but diesel was starting to gain. Problem is, execpt for the GS 2's &
GS 4's and one Atlantic in Daylight colors, Lionel does not make a steamer
with a vanderbuilt tender! Maybe some company should come out with a lionel
type vanderbuilt tender or a way to kitbash one. It will make my life easer. Not
all steamers used coal but you can't tell from what is being offered. [2c]

First you start with a tank car. . . I imagine that if you can find a tank car body that will fit the innards mounted on the existing frame, you could retain that frame without modifying it, and use Plastruct shapes and beams to modify (they make things like hatches, etc.), Evergreen sheet styrene for the boxy portion, and come up with a Vandy to use with your engine. Even some eastern roads (B&O, and I believe NYC, and many others) had Vanderbilts. Tenax R7 is a good cement, I believe, for similar plastics, and if you just use the plastic for cosmetic structure, and get a good brand of plastic compatible spray paint, even if you have to mask for your favorite paint scheme, you can get good results.
