MTH's new R-T-R catalog on their website

Over on MTH's web site they/ve posted their new Ready-To-Run catalog. I've always thought MTH train sets were a little on the pricey side for many beginners, but there's also no denying they are quality sets. There's a spattering of new sets with steam and F-3 motive power in BOTH freight and passenger sets: New Haven, B&O, UP come to mind. They all look nice.

What really caught my attention (especially in light of the recent topic on dealers dropping MTH) was the SpongeBob Square Pants Dockside Set and also a Harley Davidson set. These 2 were not pictured on web site. But the SpongeBob set is a GREAT idea. I've just made a couple of my own SpongeBob cars, including an operating one - and this is something young kids can really relate to and get excited about.

I hope MTH can get their distribution together on that set, or at least do some break-away advertising that will expose the SpongeBob set to folks who would be interested in that - but don't already read the train magazines.

Funny how I've read a few comments asking why doesn't someone do a SpongeBob train - someone like Lionel. Well, someone is doing the set only their name is MTH.

Good one MTH. Hope that set turns out to be a BIG hit!!

I too am looking forward to the SpongeBob set. My kids favorite train piece is the Goofy and Pluto hand car. They don't know road names of trains other than Santa Fe and Amtrak, but they sure know Disney and boy do they know SpongeBob!

Paul, keep your eye open for vending machines... I've seen these SponegeBob figures that are about 1-1/2 inch tall for 50ยข. All the characters and several different Bob's... perfect size for a Lionel kid's layout. I've used these figures to make my own operating SpongeBob car. Gave it the acid test over the weekend... kids loved it!!

I kinda it like too. Guess I'm also just a kid.
