Good Evening from SLICK & ICY Southern Ohio,

On night shift again.  The roads coming to work were a sheet of ice.  There were many accidents, and several roads and overpasses were shut down due to icy conditions.  My bride was working and here relief was not able to make it in and so she is holding over and hopefully will get to leave at midnight.  The weather forecast has it warming at midnight so hopefully the roads will be better.

Two new to me cars came in the mail today, a 971 lumber unloader and the 973 Gilbert Milk car.  Both are in nice shape and will only need some minor tweaking to get them excellent.  If I get them cleaned up I post pics on SPF this week.  I am thinking of moving some accessories around on the layout, and maybe taking the Gilford Station off.  We shall see.

Lots of things going on at work at church and at home.  Very busy.  It will be late before I can check in tomorrow.

GregM – A posting went up for an IT specialist.  Try this link  http://ix-gdp.usec.com/news/publish/portsmouth/american%20centrifuge%20job%20listings/acp%20piketon/2008/12-08%20job%20listings%20--%20december%202008/it%20support%20specialist.pdf

Good night and may God bless

Merry Christmas Charlie!  Smile

Hey, that extra cat was a secret! Laugh

Tardis is ready, let's go!  Got some Old Mills for ya, Laz - ready?

You want tipple even with the regular track height of your layout, is that it?  Makes sense to me!  Plus, a coal pit would be sunk down anyway, right Thumbs Up

HI GYZ,

Ran trains tonite for 2 hrs. all good NO PILE UPs!!!!!  Started planning stages for Lionel Coal Tipple and have come to the conclusion to sink the Tipple down to be even with the top of homesote.  This, I think will make life easier?  On the account I have only a 5x 12 foot area to run this and with the tipple sunk down and even with the top of layout will make life easier?

Stay Frosty,

Back from taking wife to the mall.  Not too bad.  Lucy and I sat in the 4Runner and waited.  She came out and we drove up and picked her up.  Now to stay warm.  Tomorrow is "zoo" day. Banged Head  Off to Mom's down east [pickup pork bar-be-que, slaw, potato salad, fried chicken Southern style Approve, hushpuppies and sweet ice tea.  May try to get some collards from the place in Pinetops [where Mom lives near].  Eat and open presents with the two older kids.  Rush back for Church.  Then rush to MIL's, eat and open more presents.  Come home and crash.  Sneak Santa out for Pam.   Get up Christmas and go to movie.  Then MIL's for another meal.  Sometime Youngest and Cart come for a while.  Then they go back to Wilmington as their social schedule is too tight to stay. Disapprove   Going to say good night now.  Sleep tight and don't let the bed bugs bite.  Please Mr. Santa, Please, Please make it snow deep on Buckeye.

34 degrees, ice and then rain all day, and now ???  Yuck!  One more day and then I'm off for 11 days, Laz - yay!  Hey, except I am working 6 hours of OT on Saturday.  Couldn't turn it down and we need to hit goal this month still.  Wife sidetracked me, so did not get to run the new (old) train last night, but I'm gonna tonight before bedtime.  Love this hopper, very neat (803).  RT - glad we got some brownie points with your bride!

Last nite I did bench work on my offshoot of the main layout.  I am puting in a 5x12 foot open strip mine with the Rotary tipple, 397 coal loaders(3), and the Gantery crane with clam bucket along with the coal elevator.  Hope to get some work on layout over break?  I'll post pics when done or in progress.

Good morning gang,

Temp was 13 this morning and already it is 32, we're in a heat wave as they predict a high of 50 for Friday.

Don, I had a similar situation a few years back with an Olds power window.

Colin, Haven't seen you posting much lately, guess all that driving keeps you busy.  Smile

Where's Laz?  His bears won last night.  They might have frostbite though.

Well got to clean up the train room for the Christmas guests.

Good morning everyone,

Well we were going to have a half day today, but my mom offered my sister and I the day off. I figured I would be able to catch up on a lot of missed sleeping hours, but of course not. It's a cold day here, actually it's downright freezing. I was up until about 4AM editing photos, mainly changing sharpness, color and brightness. I ended up waking up at about 6:15. I'll post some of the pictures if you guys want. They aren't of trains, however, they are of cars. (The two edited are a Mercedes S430 and a Ferrari F40.)

I think I cursed myself by saying I was in good health. The past couple days my bad leg has been acting up. It feels exactly like when I tore the ACL, and I'm guessing that it can't be good. I'm probably going to schedule and appointment soon, because the pain is getting to be too much to handle. It even hurts to drive.

Have a good day everyone.

Mornin' Fellas

Trying to put some finishing touches on this project for work. Still have other stuff to do for the same project, but I want to get these last few items fixed on what I've done so far.

Enjoyed the SPF posts this week - no one noticed the Chief's car???

Fife - I was going to ship my C&O PS1 (the one we found in York in April) but decided against it. The string of 8 PS1s really looks nice behind the Kitties.

Well off to work, or should I say back to work... TTYL

Morning all. Looks like it snowed overnight - what a surprise... I'll clear it after I blast through to take the boy to wrestling practice. Now he tells me his phone died. Sigh. I'll get one of those cheap pay-as-you-go ones and swap the chip. Power window equipment is breathtakingly expensive. Even for our Dodge minivan, the parts started at around $300. Fortunately, I could take the door panel off and figure it out myself. That's why I got crank-windows in the new car. LOL. Prayers for Paula. hard to associate Christmas with such a loss. Haven't had a chance to touch the layout. Thinking of connecting some loops - just adding a manual switch that is isolated from the other loop. I could push an engine accross the gap if I phased the transformers correctly. I dimmly recall dismantling a similar set up all last Christmas - LOL.

Good morning all,

It is supposed to get really nasty in the weather department today.  It does not matter to me as I am not driving.  Stayed up way too late reading last night.  Last day of work today for the next week and a half.  Looking forward to time off.  First long down time since last Christmas.  May not post as regularly but will read to stay up to speed.  I had bran muffins on the dining car this morning.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Mornin' boys.  Mornin' English.  Happy Christmas Eve -er, EVESign - Dots  For weather, check out post from G'burg.

Spent a nice afternoon with my oldest boy, whom is still healing.  Did a little Christmas shopping for him and his little family, and for the first time this season, got into the Christmas Spirit.  Had a late lunch at the local Owl Sanctuary...

Still haven't finished my layout, but things are shaping up.  Will probably just fill in the holes 'til after Christmas, then finish "fleshing" them in later.  I wanna run trains, dagnabbit.

Be merry, or be gone...

Good morning everyone!

Thanks for the kind thoughts and prayers for our Youth Pastor and his wife.  We came close to losing our son when he was 2 weeks old, so I know the agony of seeing them in that condition.  Can't imagine the pain of losing him.  As you say, this close to Christmas, and the fact that he was born on Thanksgiving will mark these times for their eternity.

Don, I have felt your pain a few times.  Mercedes Benz has a history with window regulators.  If I go to the dealer, it is $500+ dollars.  The last time it happened, I took it to the place that does our other cars.  He ordered the Regulator Kit through NAPA and it comes in two parts.  Motor and mechanism.  This last time, it just needed the mechanism and so with labor, it came to $160.  They do sell them aftermarket and that is the way to go.  And yes, it still has a warranty.

Well, I got a suprize last night upon coming home.  A box from my favorite train store.  They had sent me a Angela Trotter Thomas Christmas car as a present.  Just another reason for dealing with train stores vs big box stores.  I do buy from both, but when possible, try to go through the train store.

Had to fry a turkey for a guy from work last night.  Brought his kids over while we did some cooking.  Kids are a bit on the "different" side.  Little one is full of energy without the guidance of a diciplinarian and daughters acted like they were in their own worlds.  Just stood there texting each other back and forth...boardering rude.

Wife is actually working today.  First time since August.  I hope she remembers all her passwords for the drug cabinets and things.  She will have to re-orient herself to the nursing floor and also have to update some information.  They are now requiring them to work at least 24 hours a month, so she will have to start working a bit more.  We are looking into a nanny or babysitter, but it seems they are hard to come by...at least good ones.

Chuch, Hope wife is doing well.  It is after everything is over and they have to get back into life that it gets tough.  Mourning is a hard thing, never know when memories or the sense of loss will hit with overwhelming emotions....All we can do is be there for them.  May God's peace and comfort be with her in this most difficult time.

God Bless,

Dennis

Good Morning all

Getting ready to go home in about an hour.  We were just busy enough last night to make the time pass fast.  The first midnight is a killer Sleepy

Don - What kind of car has a $500 regulator?  Something I've done before is gone to junk yards went for the part and helped the yard guy remove the piece, so I have a clue on how to take apart mine at home.  I figure all the parts going down the road are used, so why not get parts that are already used?  (Remember I have American Flyers so I keep them running with "used" parts all the time.Wink

Chuck - prayers for you Pam and her mom.  She will need you as she grieves.

A fresh cup of joe for the drive home but not so much as you wake up before you want to! Shock

May God bless

Morning to All,

It's a chilly 17 degrees today, not nearly as cold as yesterday AM, a whole 8 degrees warmer.  The big difference is the wind.  There's no wind compared to 20+ mph yesterday.

Today is last day for kids. Early dismissal so everyone can leave after the kids go.  Tomorrow we will pack and head to BIL and SIL's house in Northern VA, our son wll meet us there.   We'll have Christmas Eve dinner with them and go to church, then open gifts with them in AM.  After breakfast we will head to sister and BIL's house for my family's Christmas.  Hope nephew enjoys the trains.

Don Baker - I feel your pain. My little leaf mulching incident where my lawn tractor caught fire cost me $549.  Of course a new tractor would have been closer to $1500 if not more. The tractor repair guy is very thorough and very honest.  I have worked with him through the years. Still hurts the wallet this time of year.

Chuck - sorry to hear about your wife's losing her mother.  Never easy at any age.

Dennis - sorry to hear about your Asst. Pastor's child.  Very hard when a child passes, especially this time of year.

Yesterday at school we learned that a 19 yo former student was killed in a car crash eary Sunday AM. Bright, beautiful girl with a heart of gold,  studying to be an elementary teacher.  What a shame.

Well I must be going.  Try to check in later today.

Good Evening/Morning

FINALLY, got my contribution to the SPF up.  Hope I didn't take up too much space.

Now..... How many days does it rain here??  10 days per year MAYBE !!!

How often does my brother come down to visit ?? Once maybe twice a year !!!

So What Happens ????

We decide to go out for brunch, get in our car, wife opens the passenger window to clear the moisture, the window doesn't go back up!!!  Have to take it to garage, just how much is a window regulator cost?????  $500    Now this is the wifes car, so what do we do????  Buy a $500 window regulator.  If it was my car?  How many colors of cardboard are their?  What really ticks me off, is that had to replace a regulator in our van this past spring, they said the same thing.  I go online find them for $50-$90, call the garage, they say. We can't warranty that !  That's OK no warranty needed!  Ask them today about aftermarket, they say can't get them, they don't make them.  Now, I'm at work, she's at home, they have the car.  So I tell him quite calmly, fine you put in that $500 regulator, and then after the car is picked up, you can erase our account from your system and our 4 cars.  I'm over a barrel on this one, and you can have it, but it just cost you a significant customer.  So he tried to justify it, and I said justify all you want, you can get me once, but you won't get me again!  So enjoy!

My little rant is over!

Hope everyone is near ready for Christmas, and the weather becomes favorable.
