Fastrack layout question
Posted by coldstorage5 on Monday, March 3, 2008 12:38 PM

Hey, Im ready to expand my lay out.  In my basement I have room for a L shape design.  Imagine a 4 by 8 connected to a 4 by 6.  So its 12 feet long and the L part is 4 feet wide. In other words I have a 6 by 12 rectangle, the I cut out a 2 by 8 section to get the L shape.

___________12 ft________

|                                    |4TH

|6ft      ** ______________|

|______| 2 ft

  4 ft

I tried to draw a  shape:

So my question is will the train be able to make the turn back  on the L shape loop where I put the asterick??

Thanx,

CS

Great,

I will have an inner and outer loop in the L, so according to your chart.  I will proberly need another piece of wood in the inside corner.  What do you think.  Thanx for your time!!

That's very similar to what type of space I'm looking at, and from what I gather by using RR Track, I can get an L-shaped layout with the Fastrack, but I can't fit another loop inside the outerloop, unless I go deeper than 4 feet.  So I'm thinking about Fastrack for the outloop at 36" and Realtrax for the inner loop at 31".

I had to widen our layout table to 4' 6" to accomodate 2 tracks.

if you want two loops to kinda mimic each other, i would add a triangular piece in the corner and do something like this...

idea for a finished track plan. fastrack makes it hard to do what you want but it does have a little give to it...

Close to what I have. It will be interesting to see if it will really fit on a 4' wide table. I had to widen my table to 4' 6". I like the switches in the inner loop.

May I suggest getting away from the front edge (**) alltogether, and placing a 45 degree crossing in between your two sections.
