They have LEDs, too.

Kool...You are right because I have some pieces that were in a new set in 1963, but are marked in the 1950's.  Not only do they have the date, but they say Blt by Lionel.

I agree, with emphasis on the word "GOOD".

Recently, I did the Radio Shack, Home Depot, Electronic and Hardware store route looking for a bulb for one of my engines. NET RESULT: "Trainland" had it.

PS.  I did check a LHS (not really close). They would order it for me!  I also checked E-Bay and a couple of On-line train parts places but the minimum charges were too high.

Along with the above mentioned, a good hobby shop will carry the full line of replacement bulbs.  CTT also advertises Town & Country which sells a full line of bulbs.

As far as builder dates on cars, in the Post War era Lionel usually developed their printing process once for a car series and kept using it.  So a car that says "New 4-47" could have been made in April 1947 or September of 1968... or somewhere in between.

In the Post 1970 world builder dates were a little more accurate!

Are you trying to figure out what year the train was made?  Auto parts store, Home Depot Lows, Radioshack  for the bulbs
