Automatic control of two reversing loops

I am building a super "O" layout in a room approx 9 X 18. The layout is basically "U" shaped with a reversing loop on each side of the room. There is a passing siding between the two loops also. I would like to run two trains. How, using relays or a better way, I'm open to suggestions, can I stop the inbound train on the siding or mainline if the train enters the loop from alternating directions? Thanks

I've done this type of thing before, and its really cool. The secret is to have the train wait at the passing area until both trains are there, and release both.

One turnout will always be set for the siding, and the other for the main. Two insulated sections of track located more than a train length away will be needed to reset the switchs, one on each end.

There are two ways to stop and start the trains, one using relays the other without. The method without is a little trickier because you have to rely on the wheels of the cars on the trains to start both trains. The relay method is a little more reliable.

The logic for both methods is, when a train is in position to pass, it turns on the power to the opposite track. When the second train arrives, both trains leave.

In the non relay method, you will need to insulate both outside rails, this will be the stopping zone for the engine. You will also need to have a section that has only one outside rail insulated, this will be connected to the double insulated section of the other track to provide power to start the train.

The relay method takes 2 relays one for each track. An insulated section triggers the relay to send power to the insulated center rail of the other track.
