Allegheny is about 3 months old, test it 2 or three times a day....still doing fine.
During the first week I made an adjustment to the cable between the Engine and Tender,
repositioned it to make a larger loop since it does swing out on curves. Did that by opening the tender and extending the cable about an inch, still having a service loop inside.

Thanks TM. The power of the Allegheny was one of the attributes that I really liked, I have quite a few die cast hoppers. My only real problem with the Allegheny is I wanted to stay with a pre-merger B&O line, although the C&O did serve some of the same area.
Unfotunately I missed the "Fall Fair Sale" from K-Line and the Mikados have gone up significantly in price. I guess another possibility would be a Williams Berkshire with a TMCC upgrade.

I own the Allegheny. It's a beatiful engine.
Pros:
- smokes like there is no tomorrow
- good response in TMCC mode
- is a good hauler (i've had it pull up to 50 cars at one time with no problem)
- good railsounds system

Cons:
- Like they said, the trailing truck on the engine fell out twice: once when I lifted it out of the box, the other when I removed it from the track. I pushed a little harderthe second time I put the bearing back into place, and it's been fine ever since.
- looks a little undersized

One of the interesting things about the engine, is that when it rounds a bend, it swings out the cab too, so it can negoitate the curves. It looks a little odd at first.

Overall it's a good performer.

Hopes this helps.

Any feedback from owner/operators of these engines. On the CTT test run it appears that the test engine had a couple of problems has anyone else had similar or other problems? Currently undecided between buying the Mikado or the Allegheny since both operate on 31" curves. [?]
