Transformer free to a good home
Posted by lionelsoni on Saturday, October 27, 2007 10:19 PM

I bought a transformer today which I have rewired and will give to any of our British members who would like to pay the shipping cost.

It is an Alderman "A" Transformer, rated for 200-250 volts, 50-100 hertz, 70 watts.  It looks to be prewar and made in England.  It is about 4x4x5 inches in size.  It can be used for 4-12, 6-14, or 10-18 volts, but stepped in the typical prewar fashion in 5 steps.  It has a 13-ampere BS 1363 plug with a good 3-ampere BS 1362 fuse in it.  It has banana jacks for the output connections; and the original plugs are included.  I have replaced bad internal wiring and the flex (power cord).  The new flex has American wire colors (white, black, green, not blue, brown, green-yellow).  The case is connected to the protective earth (equipment ground).  The transformer was set up with a fuse wire, which I replaced with an internal 5-ampere auto-resetting circuit breaker.

It might not be the best thing for running trains, because of the e-unit-tripping gaps in the switch; but it may have some use for accessories.

Bob, I can't use the transformer but would really like to see a picture if you could post one. Thanks in advance. Ken

How did a car insurance ad get between the first 2 posts?
