Williams Scale Engines?

I bought one of the Williams scale Hudsons. The tender is short, but is the right width. A nice engine, runs terrific, great finish, and the price is unbeatable. (I paid $260 for mine brand new at York in the spring).

 

Williams has made other scale engines in the past that are full scale, with some compromises made for the large flanges needed for 3 rail. I have a N&W J streamliner that is brass and really nice. Runs great, great paint and finish. And you can find these engines cheap if you look around, no one seems to like them (some are light on detail).

   Ickiii,  Very good questions. I bought a "scale" Hudson and yes, while the engine was not bad, the tender.... come on, give me a break. It was small! The real Hudsons had large tenders with 12 wheels (I ate it (Kept it).     Reuben

  I see you live in the Cleveland area, Trading Post Train's on Pearl Rd in Cleveland has Williams trains. They have a listing in the retail directory, in the back of CTT.

I had heard that Williams scale engine are scale size but not scale.  When asked for an explanation a salesperson told me that the Williams Scale Hudsons specifically were shorter and had smaller tenders than a true scale loco would. (700E)

 Has this been others experience?  

 My trains are toys, but I want to know what I purchase before I get it (and unfortunately I do not have a hobby store nearby with Williams available)
