Just watched another set sell for $9,201.
Unbelieveable.
Yeah. The 2333 set. I see that johnnygoogle won it. I wonder if he is any relation to barneygoogle. The googles must have an aweful lot of money to toss around. Did they purchase those locomotives to use them as search engines?

Very good point John...I think I might want some more proof than just what his auction states and the pictures. Those portholes are suspicious; and why no pictures of the internals? should be easy enough to pop the shell off and snap a few pics.
I did see he got a POS feedback after selling a mint 2360 GG1 for $2477...The GG1 Auction here

The seller says he used the TCA grading code, but it appears he is not a TCA member himself & that leaves him free from being accountable to the TCA. He said the original owner had these in his collection & were never run. I do know there were lots of collectors that would buy 2 & 3 sets of engines when they come out & we had just such a collector here. If I were putting out that kind of money I would want them TCA authenticated, in other words, I would want a high ranking TCA member to look at them & evaluate them for me before I would purchase them. Thanks, John
All his trains look like they were just made yesterday.
Who knows what the real deal is.
OMG... $4163 that's a lot of dough!! Looking at his ended auction I found he's selling another set even better!!His list of auctions
Now bidding at $5,500!!!!!!!!!!!
This set should be in the Toy Train Museam in Strasburg. Need a volunteer to buy them and donate them.Any takers?
My 2343s have sound as well. They sound like a 1950's bike horn. And the growl the motors make is wonderful.
I don't know a thing about Lionel original boxes. Much variety and complexities and I just never got around to familiarize myself on them.
Hmmm, but I definitely see what you mean about the portholes. I've never seen an original that wasn't slightly yellowed. I agree they look like the modern "fish eye" lens, and not the original lens. It's also a major rarity to find an original Santa Fe without at least some minor decal issues.
At least this pair has matching pick up rollers
If these are legit, I'm impressed. Might be one of the best 2333 AA sets I've ever seen. Clearly museum quality if so. The price is leaning toward museum piece.
My old Greenberg's price guide (1982) says a mint 2333 value is $220
I'm pretty content with my Lionel 18100 Santa Fe F's. Almost identical to the 2333, or actually the 2343 since they have Magnetraction. And they have sound too

I have my doubts.
I'm not super familiar with the older sets, but look at the 1st photo. Are those conical roller pickups original? My Lionel 623 (Santa Fe Switcher) and 2025 (Pensy steamer) have the thick rollers like the second photo.

Better yet go into his other items for sale and look at the B&O's for sale there at $4700.00

Unbelievable. How could there even be a set in this good a condition after so long. If I owned it I don't think I could sell it.
