Possible new idea
Posted by Fred Bear on Tuesday, September 11, 2007 6:20 PM

I'm sure some of you smart folks have already come up with this but I thought I 'd post it anyway

Does anyone lay the plaster cloth down first then hit it with water on a paint brush? I've found this to be a very accurate way to place this cloth without it doubling it over on you four hundred and seventy six times. If you color the water a basic ground color, it saves you on coloring later. While this stuff is wet, I sprinkled some hydrocal on it, more colored water on the paint brush and even a better ground surface yet. Just an idea, seemed real easy and hardly any mess at all. One can also stick rocks to it at this point if need be or other such items. Jake

FRED,

I used a plastic screen, like for screendoors, fasten  that down with screws over wood then I used a product known ask cement crack filler, sold at harware stores.  I mix up the fine mixture of a cement base filler with water then add my color to it.  Spread it on with a paint brush, hardens in about two hours, can put rocks in it or moss to look like bushes.  Easy and a box cost about $5.

Well - 2nd time to reply - it ate my first reply.

Sounds like 2 good ideas with a possible combination of the 2....hmmm...

When I used the plaster cloth before, I dipped it into a water-filled rectangular aluminum pan, holding the top 2 corners - lifted it out and allowed the excess water to drain.  Then placed on the layout and actually crinkled it in various places - did not want it smooth.  Like the "colored" water idea.

Laz - was it "nylon" screen?  Have some left-over from a repair project.  Is the cement crack repair light weight when it dries?

Thanks!

LISA,

Yes it was the nylon screen stuff for windows and doors.  And yes the crack filler is sold in a 5lb box and is very light in weight.  Just add your favorite color to the mix.
