Smoker stopped working on new engine (600).
Can someone tell me how to remove the square metal cover over the smoker? I can see down inside and it looks like the wick wire is broken off inside the funnel.
Also I am new to trains..... can the element be resoldered once I figure out how to remove it or is it better to just purchase a replacement element?
Thanks to anyone who can help.
Also if anyone has a link to Lionel train parts (have not checked this site yet), or diagrams that show dissasembly of Lionel trains (particularly the Cascade 600 engine), I would be forever greatful!
Ok..... I figured out how to remove the silver cover over the smoke resevoir. The element is fried in half. So it looks like I need to replace the element.
The wick material is toast also.
Anyway.... if anyone knows where to obtain a repair manual for engines.... do share.
Thanks
Lionel's web pages have several diagrams showing the parts and part numbers.
Here is a shop that repairs Lionel.

If your element is fried in half, you are probaly running the smoke unit without fluid and it is getting too hot. The wick material can be replaced with common household pink insulation.
Here is a great website that will give you some advice.
