I know it's off topic. A tanker full of chlorine came lose and rolled through Las Vegas from the south to the north of town, unattended. About twenty miles at about 50 MPH.
Union Pacific said they don't know what happened.

Or, they never set the hand brake when they cut away from it & maybe the air holding the piston out, for the brakes, bled off & it rolled away. Another thing that could have happened is kids released it. I'd like to think not but when I worked in Erie, Pa. kids were turning angle cocks & pulling cutting levers & that was in broad daylight & I would be working the train & see them do it . Plus they would be jumping over cars, crawling under them..... Well, you get the picture ! You'll never guess what I did once long time ago !! I parked the truck to close to the track & released a handbrake on a car, as the train was coming to pick these cars up, & wouldn't you know ? !! It rolled back instantly & smashed the door on the truck !! 5 days off on paper !
Thanks, John

I used t get 911 calls about kids on the 25th St. trestle all the time but the bad thing was their was no way to get the patrol car up there and I would have to walk up their by that time the little delinquints would see me and run. Running on ballast and me don't mix. They were a little more destructive they would throw the ballast and passing cars.
PK : I figured you may have had some interesting things happen on your job !! I rode Amtrak one time from NYC & coming threw some of those cities, I know Rochester was one, they were actually throwing rocks & stuff at the windows of the pass. cars. Oh, I've even found spikes lined up on the rail & as the train would go by, the wheels hit the spikes & they went flying like bullets. That happened in Erie too. Hope you stay safe !!
