Since you asked, this station is actually located in Ontario, Canada. It is at Port Stanly. They offer train rides etc., with the road name "The London and Port Stanley Railway".
Their website is:

Actually, the old train station for Neuse, NC (in what is now North Raleigh) looks pretty much exactly like that. It's now sitting next to the tracks as part of some kind of building supply company. So the "article" isn't far wrong.
I am glad to see DOT doing this. If they are going to ladle over the tax dollar they might as well do it on something I like.
'Rim shot' indeed. Wow, that's funny. A great way to begin the day Run for it, Roy!! They're on to you!

North Carolina buys railroad station
Print | Email | Contact Us August 27, 2007 ROSEYVILLE, N.C. - Secret sources with access to the local Planning and Renovation Committee have revealed, unannouced, discreet, plans for the recently announced acquisition of Union Station, located in Goldsboro.
The facility was purchased through secret ballot for the amount of $175,676,293.00, which has been reassigned from the general fund through sales tax revenue recently acessed on gasoline purchases. The facility (shown below) does require some general renovation and redecoration.
The redecoration discussions are currently in debate as a result of a transportation issue regarding the retrieval of some items recently acquired from ebay. It was reported that $11,000 was spent on various nostaglia related items as sold by an individual in Texas. (It has not been confirmed but indicated the Texan had recent water damage, and has a teen age daughter.) The chairman of the committed had indicated in his CHIEFLY implementation of the recently revised by-laws of the city provided him with full authority of these activites. It was also reported that his family has been involved in this acquisition arguing that additional space was required for storage facilities to be utilized by the community for clothes storage.
In an attempt to get further documentation and clarification of the sale, it was implied that no further statements will be provided until after December, unless of course there was an opportunity for a live broadcast on Jerry Springer's Show. It is interesting to note that as the Chairman was leaving, we overheard something being muttered about a "GRIT'S Palace". We will be monitoring these activities and follow-up on future events. Especially, in nature about the relocation of the station to the propossed beach location, currently known as the pond.
From todays Trains Magazine email news:
Print | Email | Contact Us August 24, 2007 GOLDSBORO, N.C. - Officials from the North Carolina Department of Transportation and the city of Goldsboro announced they have purchased the former Union Station at Goldsboro, built in 1909. The station was sold to a private business in 1972 after passenger service was discontinued. It has been purchased by NCDOT as part of its Historic Station Restoration and Preservation Program, which has restored a dozen stations throughout the state. Plans call for its restoration and use as a multimodal transportation center. The station, which was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1977, will be converted to a multimodal transportation center. Gateway, Goldsboro's combined urban and rural transportation system, and intercity bus-service provider Greyhound are among possible transit tenants, as are facilities to host projected commuter rail service between Goldsboro and Raleigh and proposed intercity rail service to Wilmington and Morehead City. The station was designed by the Wilmington architectural firm of Leitner and Wilkins and is considered one of the most ambitious stations of its type in North Carolina. The two-story brick building encompasses nearly 10,000 square feet and covers two city blocks. At one time the Atlantic & East Carolina Railway, Atlantic Coast Line, and the Southern Railway served the station.Goldsboro officials have applied for a grant through the Federal Highway Administration's Transportation, Community, and System Preservation Program to be used for building stabilization and pre-renovation architectural and engineering work. Actual restoration construction, contingent upon funding, is expected to begin in July 2008 and continue through completion in June 2010.
