Great progress on your layout.  Benchwork looks strong and I like your layout design.  Keep us posted.

Adam,

Why don't you set up the outer loop and attach a couple of wires and run your trains.  Then you can proceed at your own pace and still enjoy your trains.

What are you studying to be at college?

Adam - nice track plan. I like the elevated section.

That 2x4 construction looks pretty nice...how do you like it so far? do you think it'll be sturdy enough to support your weight on the table?  Did you use nails or screws?  Thanks for posting your pictures, very much appreciated.

EDIT: Like your track plan too.  Your layout is just about exactly the same caliber layout I'm shooting for soon.

Thank you for the compliment. This is my first time building benchwork so I appreciate that. I usually use milk crates or put plywood on top of a pingpong table. I used screws so it could be disassembled easier should I need to take it down. I haven't secured the plywood yet because I want to lay the track down and see how the access hole will work with track in place.

I didn't feel safe getting on the layout without the bracing on the legs, but it was good enough to support the plywood. With the leg bracing it feels much more sturdy and could probably support my weight (150lbs).

My layout progress
Posted by lionel2986 on Sunday, August 19, 2007 11:48 AM

Well I've been saying I'll post pictures for a while now. Progress has been slow but it's much cooler today. I will set up track and see if everything fits and runs smoothly before I screw the boards down in this configuration. However I must warn you updates will be slow.

Here is the plan:

Put on legs:

Bracing for legs:

It was hard getting the layout in one shot, so here's two:

This layout has been more work than I expected. It is hard finding time to work on it when I spend my summer with friends I don't see while at college. I also want to complete it so I can run the trains. Thanks for your time.
