I have always thought GG1's were awesome looking and wanted to get one since I was a kid. From this site I learned about Williams and started looking around for one. I finally found myself in a position to pick up not one but two of them! I picked up a pair of Williams from e-bay! (one is a dummy unit) Supposedly they are in new / un-used condition and the dummy unit has Rail Sounds installed. I really do not know anything about Rail Sounds. (how it works, etc..) All I know is I will have 2 GG1's running around the layout this year and I am a happy camper!

Sounds like a winner.I have a black Williams PRR GG1 & recently converted it to Tmcc. Either way, they run great.

yep this is one of those "must haves". it is right there at the top with the sante fe f3. mine is a lionel that is over 20yrs old but still gets a lot of run time.
Congratulations! A GG1 is sure wonderful - I have an 027 Williams model that I adore.

I have the K-Line version of the GG1, runs good. Tried to find out about converting it to either TMCC or DCS and was surprised at the extreme cost, even though it has the connector plug for TMCC installed in it, so I am leaving it as conventional.
Like Bob N. said to run it like the Pennsy did the rear pantograph only would be raised up, if not mistaken even in bad weather only the rear pantograph was used for forward, for reverse the other pantograph would be used, if not mistaken it was something about not damaging the front pantograph over ruff catinary wires connections.

So what exactly is Rail Sounds ? (installed in the dummy unit)
I know I am behind the times on this stuff !
I too have wanted a GG1for a long time.Ever since K Line started making them, i've been looking for one. Ebay has always had a few here & there, but the price was above my arbitrary limit, or it had TMCC(I run conventional or DCS). I finally scored one today,at a bit over what I thought it would go for, but i'm happy. Shoud run just fine on my O45 curves---

The rear pantograph was typically raised so that if it snagged, only one would be damaged, and the front one could still be used.

Sorry, man. I'm off my game today. My doctor says I need to take a laxative.
