The following is a 1688e I sent to OUR own Keith Woodworth (1688torpedo) for restoration.  I sent the engine in December, and received it back last week.  Some time invested but WELL worth the wait.  Keith told me that I would be happy with the results, and was he ever right.

One fantastic job Keith !!  Bow [bow] Bow [bow] Bow [bow]

 BEFORE

AFTER

What the pictures do NOT show is how well it runs!  This little engine is definetly appropriately named it is fast!  On second thought maybe it should be renamed the "Rocket".  It is quick !  And there is no wheel wobble.

Again a great job Keith !!

Great pics guys - that's a nice loco Don!  Jim S - didn't see any skelingtons in there did you (in Chuck's closet?) Tom - always great!  Laz - always love to see your layout, esp the sawmill area!  Just great everybody - thanks for sharing!

Here are 2 pics of the Best Friend of Charleston.  IN the first you can see the boxes for the set on the track as well as two additional cars that are not on the track right now - have to figure out how to get more traction.  Also notice the new Lionel Halloween Handcar that came in from a preorder.  It was changed ALOT from the catalog picture.

And here is a closeup of the locomotive and you can see that little screw on the back wheel coming out (AGAIN)...

Alex - she runs very smooth and has okay traction "as is" - with one passenger car.  With 2, you have to ease up and let the wheels spin a little until she starts moving.  She won't pull 3 passenger cars - just spins her wheels.  I'm pretty sure the original consist was 3 and there was a link to a newspaper article about that on a diff thread.  I just have her on a single circle of O31 track right now, as I'm between layouts, so I haven't tested on switches.  There is a pickup under the locomotive and another under the tender and they are connected with a little wire harness.  It looks to me like they have a can motor in that boiler feeding down to the gearing under the locomotive.

I might try to find a couple heavy lead figures to paint that would add to the weight of the locomotive and help with the 2nd passenger car.  I'll probably put a diorama in my layout somewhere with an O27 loop and run it with 2 passenger cars and have a siding with the other passenger car I bought.  I'm glad I bought it, but I would not have gotten a 2nd add-on passenger car if I knew about this traction issue.  If I end up having it in a display mostly, I would definitely put all 3 passenger cars on just for the look of it - it was very nice indeed!

RIP Chewy - best dog I ever had.

everyone has heard of the Rio Grande Southern's Goose but did you know the standard gauge Alaska RR once had Geese as well? In WWII they were used as a traveling PX or BX, depending on which service you were in. Here's a Goose and a gosling in Anchorage.
