It all depends on what your isolating.
If you just want to separate each oval, all you need to do is put the extensions in between the crossover switches.
On the underside of the small sections there is a jumper wire across the cut section of rail. This wire is removed when you want to use the section as an isolation barrier, the same as using a fiber pin in tubular track. I don't have any handy but I believe the one with no ballast slope goes between the two switches and the other with slope are used on the ends if desired.
Off the subject, Lionel has now shipped the 48" switches to dealers.
I have looked at the manuals on the Lionel website, and it provides 3 track extensions (they appear to be able to small block sections as well, they have a cut in the center rail) and it says to put 1 in the middle of a crossover using 2 of them, and the other 2 on each mainline. My question is, is if they are two ovals, wouldnt having 1 track extension on each main mean that when the ovals come aroud they wont be able to reach the back of the switch? Since you have made and extra 1 inch or so, going in a oval, it seams when I would get back aroud that it wouldnt reach the back of the switch. Are addtional extensions required to allow the main to reach the back of the switch?
