A friend has an MTH LOCO with DCS, but he only has Lionel controllers.  Is there a way to lock the engine into forward only without an MTH controller ?  Even with putting in a jumper or a switch ?

Thanks,  Dave

Please consult the owners manua for the engine (If you don't have the owners manual, download it from the MTH website).  There is a direction lock option than can be accessed from conventional mode.  I believe you get the engine going in the direction you want and hit a combination of whistle and bell buttons to lock it down.  I think it's 1 whistle and 3 bells.   Repeat to unlock.
