Should have been Law Enforcement in NC. Retire with 30 years and over 55. Get law enforcement suppliment [until 62] and retirement. Equals more take home than full time work. No state income tax on retirement. That is why you retire at 30 years or you are loosing money. Once you draw SS at 62, you still are making more than when you worked full time. We have one of the best retirement systems in the US.
I retired with the maximum pension allowed for 35 years employment with only 22 years in at age 52. Since there were no deductions for pension and hospitalization, I ended up with the same as what I was earning while working. Didn't make any sense to keep working. In Illinois our pension wasn't taxed either. But I didn't like the state and left for New Mexico. I don't mind paying tax on the pension. BTW...a government pension means you only collect 40% of Social Security...not the full amount.
BUCKEYE,
I have used REMINGTONS GUN SCRUB. Its used mainly to clean out the barrels of gons to get all the gun powder out but does a good job on most thing assciated with gunk on metals. Can find it at local sporting goods shops. Hope this helps?

Frank, I'll be Frank. Several of us feel the same way. Might have been some tar and feathers with a rail involved.
Compared to Amtrak, that is first class passenger service. At least you aint three to eight (or more) hours late.

Several my butt. Just the select few that demand from those that don't fit into their clique and accept their notions of what is true and what isn't. You guys are on every forum. Hey....isn't it about time for Frank to give us another rerun of those OLD locos he treasures so much?

And well respected on the other forums. They do give a lot of imfo out there & are well liked. I read their posts there, but I only belong here. You might try listening to what they say, since postwar is there hobby. I can respect THEM. Mr. Dep has to be the authority.

Now THERE is a suggestion that makes sense. Let's just go back to page 1 of this thread and see who was the first one to wax sarcastic. Well whadya know...it's the highly respected ChiefEagles making a wiseacre comment about my question about removing magnetic junk stuck to wheels and axles!!! So will the SuperChief LEAVE the forum as you suggested? Stay tuned to find find out...same time, same station.
Ok guys, I think we ought to settle down before someone else steps in.

No, I don't believe he's going anywhere & it didn't start with the 1st. post on this thread. It started way back with your bragging about your expensive stuff & calling the starter sets & low end stuff JUNK .

Well, it's like this. This a long lasting forum consisting of a number of groups of folks. There are many members here who have been posting together for years, certainly years before I found this forum. The forum isn't perfect, but it a place where long standing friendships have been built, and respect has been e-a-r-n-e-d from people helping people, lending a hand, giving advice, shipping a fellow a part you have some spares of and expecting nothing in return, offering to help a friend who needs a personal advice outside trains, etc, etc. While I myself am an outsider, I see the tremendous and valued friendship that the regulars share with each other.
I also see how welcoming they are to new folks. Everyone is welcome who wants to talk about o-gauge trains in a very friendly atmosphere. It appears no one is subject to exclusion. Kind of the cyber version of Floyd's Barber Shop. Treat people like you yourself would want to be treated and you get along just fine. Doesn't mean everyone agrees with everyone else - no fun in that. But differing points of view are discussed with a level of civility.
Think of it as someone's living room. Folks who knock on the door are welcomed in, offered a drink and given a seat in the big easy chair. Those who break down the door and barge in ranting about how great they are, how smart they are, how much better they are, how much better thier equipment is, how much better thier layout is, how crummy other peoples stuff is, etc, etc, etc. just aren't as welcome.
We've heard ad naseum from you about how wrong everyone is in many of their opinions, how your choice of equipment is better, how much money you have, how much smarter you are and blah, blah, blah. Stuff gets old from a guy who has only been here for a couple of months.
Point being, if you want to get along and be a welcomed participant here, you'll go the Golden Rule route - treating others as you would like them to treat you. If, in your world, that means being insulting, brash and demeaning to others who you feel don't meet your standard, there's a board with your name on it at AOL.

These old "junkers"?
Thanks! I'm kinda partial to 'em myself.
Very Well stated ! I found the forum about about a year after Frank, and I couldn't agree more!
ONE of the benefits I have found is that while I have had a significant time of re-orienting myself to this hobby, and planning for the past year. This forum has been a real asset in learning, and developing a feeling of companship amongst fellow enthusist.
Sure, some of the guys have a long relationship and that's fine. I'm still learning from the "spill over", I have had the pleasure of meeting a couple guys, and was totally impressed, and what was really cool it was like meeting a good friend for the first time. I've talked to others, and enjoyed that very much also.
I am looking forward to meeting more of the guys this spring.
I hope THIS forum maintains the "Flavor and Tone" it has, sometimes a little folksy, but I look forward to it everyday. When I like to watch confrontation there is always the WWF or some of the other forums. I hope it doesnt come here.
Oh, I still like the old star system.
Again Frank and Kieth you guys are right on!
