Memorial Day -- How many Vets?

US Army 1966 to 1970. Nam tour 1967 to 1968.

I had my Dad, 3 uncles, and a aunt in WW2.
Out of 20 some male cousins I was the only one that got to do the "Nam tour". Shows how popular that "action" was. No regrets. Just sadness from it all. But I feel alot better about it these days 'cause of the recognition of vets these days.

USAF, 1962 thru 1970, 48th FIS, LAFB, VA. 57th FIS, Keflavik NAS Iceland. !003rd OMS, AAFB, MD. 18th FMS, Kadena AB, Okinawa, (TDY Osan AB Korea - Korean Crisis, various AB in S. Vietnam and Taiwan. 3500 OMS, Reese AFB, TX, all as aircraft crew chief and flight engineer, flight line sup. AF Reserves, 1981 thru 1987, 907th CAMS, Rickenbacker AFB, OH. as aircraft hydraulic tech. My father was aircrew on B-17's over Germany, 29 missions, 490th Bomb Group. Oldest son USN. 2nd son 82nd Airborne.
I salute those who died in combat, as well as those who were in combat.

Thirty two years of active duty in the U.S. Coast Guard . . . . 1956-1988.

PLEASE dont' take this the wrong way - but I'm one of those guys who doesn't appreciate the "happy" in Memorial Day greetings. I understand the intent - but this day of OURS is more than picnics, shopping malls and car racing.

My profund respect and admiration to all who have served our country and to those who will never enjoy the light of day again . . . .

Great point Tom. When I was growing up, it was all about going to the cemetary with flowers & a parade. I enjoy the races, & still remember when it was called Decoration Day ! Old Glory is flying here on my flag pole, too !!

I'm with Tom On This.

Save the "Ribbon Cuttings for Shopping Malls","Gentlemen Start Your Engines",etc. for others that gave their name for things like that;not their lives.

I served because I wanted to: not because I HAD to. My utmost admiration
and respect goes out to all the members of our Armed Services who are
still serving. My hat is honestly off to them;wish I were still able to be there.

Youngest son enlisting Air Force this week.
My family has a service history all the way back the the Civil War.
