Went to change my Avatar and well it will not allow me to change it. I deleted the old one and now I'm just another faceless pinhead in the crowd.
Thanks
Trying to update my avatar since 2020

Took me a while to figure it out. What I did was this:
I picked an image off the 'net, reduced the screen then clicked and dragged it to the open border. Went to the "Change Avatar" option and followed the directions, lo and behold it worked! I wasn't the "orange on the bar of Irish Spring" anymore!
Of course, if you did the same thing then I couldn't tell you what went wrong. I'm amazed I got it right myself!
Well I used the change my avatar link and uploaded the picture I wanted from the "browse" box. the box says "uploaded" but when I click "Upload and Use Image" I get an error box. Not sure what I am doing wrong. Seems straight forward. Is there a particular format it's wanting?
Here is the error message...
Sorry, there was a problem with your last request!

If I used photshop elements to crop and resize an avatar and saved it as a jpg - it wouldn't take it. But if I reopened the photo in a new (non-photoshop) window and saved it from there, then it would. No idea why.
It's been fun. But it isn't much fun anymore. Signing off for now.

Right, I didn't use Photoshop, wouldn't know how anyway, I used the downloaded image as is.
Could be lots of things. This software is finicky. Try a different browser. I did see in the December issue a new website is in the works

3 different browsers, same results. Your stuck with the "Game of Life" dude until something changes.
While Marty is seeking help on avatars I have another question: is it possible to contact a member with a question sort of off-line? When I try to start a conversation there is always a red "X" before the person's name and nothing goes through. Thanks for the time.
Jim K
The person you're trying to contact may have the " Allow Conversation" option blocked. He may have it blocked without even realizing it. Someone tried to contact me by PM once with no success and finally used a Forum topic to do so.
I checked, and somehow or other my "Conversation" option was turned off. I have no idea how or when or why that happened, I certainly didn't do it. Needless to say I un-blocked it ASAP.
I used to be able to change avatars quite easily, something changed about a year back. I have wanted to update mine, but have also received an error message. I have no answer for this...

Howdy,
Flintlock, could you please tell me where the "allow conversation" option is located in my profile? I can't seem to find it and everyone, including you, comes up with the little red X before their name when trying to start a conversation. Thanks.
Sure! What you do is this:
On the upper right hand corner of the screen look for the panel with your avatar. You'll see Manage Profile / Settings. Select "Settings."
A new screen will appear labeled "Community Settings." Scroll down to "Conversations Configuration." Look for "Allow Conversations From" and make your selection. For what it's worth I selected "All Users" on mine, I'll talk to anybody!
That should take care of it. Try messaging me when you're done. If I'm off-line I may not respond right away but I will respond when I see your message.
Update: I just sent you a Private Message to see if you can recieve even if you can't send. 12/3/20 at 12:00 noon.
Thank you. I received your message so that is good. When I brought up the settings I already was set up............ I think. I will try to start a conversation with you now just as a test. Thanks again.
One more thing Jim, are you clicking on the avatar of the person you want to have the conversation with? If you click on your own it won't work.
