My Lionel KW Transformer will not operate my Lionel Southern Pacific SD-40 in conventional mode. Why? I get the Railsounds when I turn on but no motion. It does fine in TMCC mode . Any ideas are welcomed

Sounds like the loco still wants to run in command mode. Did you unplug the command base from the power outlet? Disconnecting it from the common terminal sometimes isn't enough.

Hi thanks for the reply. My layout is 6 X 14 feet with two levels. The upper level is primarily passenger service. One side of the KW is used for that. Occasionally I'll use a TMCC equipped LOCO on the lower level to haul freight. Perhaps the KW is not able to handle that or mine is just too old.

Exciting News! You know I did unplug the command base from the outlet. Guess what? It works!! What a sight to behold! That weathered Southern Pacific SD-40 "Warhorse" leading a long line of heavy freight. Those Pullmors chattering over that smooth MAGNE-TRACTION with the Rail Sounds under load. Beautiful! But boy! she sure does pull a lot of AMPs...she has to share the system with something light, otherwise everything running is pulled down. Thanks." Railroading is Fun"
