My wife is trying to ressurect her dad's Lionel Junior train. She oredered track which has very tight tollerance between pin and tube. I understand that tight is good but the gaps between sections are over 1/8". Is this acceptable?
In general you would not want gaps on every piece of track on every rail. Occasionally there's some pieces that just don't fit right and you'll have one or two of the rails 1/8" shorter. But if they're all that way, you should try to get them tighter. Straights, I usually take a block of wood and try to hold one piece of track tight, while tapping the block of wood against the other piece of tracks butt end. That usually gets them tight. Curves are a bit tricky.
if you haven’t done this yet, hold one piece at a right angle to a second piece and insert one pin at a time in each of the three rails. This normally makes it easier to then connect the two track ends with a tight fit.
