Lionel Remote Control ?

Always learning and experimenting.

On a previous post, I mentioned that we were going to install a push button switch to operate a crossing gate. (Still going to)

In the meantime, I took an old Remote Control (unload/uncoupler) switch and hooked it up to a crossing gate. It works!

Here's my question:

         The controler has four wires. I only used two. Both buttons work.

1st question:

Why since I only hooked up two wires?

2nd qustion:

Can the buttons be isolated so the other two wires can be hooked up to  another gate with one button each independently?

Looks like you can to me if you are using a controler for a 6019 track section.

The controller functions 2 ways.

• As a DPDT to activate unload cars
• As a DPST to activate uncouple.

The 4-wires from L-R or bottom to top are as follows: outside rail return, left blade, center rail powr, right blade/uncouple magnet. If you connect power and return directly to the transformer only the blade connections need to be run to the track.
