Mornin' boys. Clearing and 43 along the Patterson Creek cutoff. Need to finish placing all the doo-dads on the North Pole layout, hook up the LW's, then that will be done. No, I have to put away all those Dept 56 boxes, then I'll be done. Wifey says we dine out tonight.
Did speak with Fifepup, and he sounded overwhelmed. Told him to hang in there. He said returning to Maryland not an option, he just wished he had prepared better.
Mornin' FellasTook Matthew to daycare and informed them his last day will be December 23rd. They were surprised. Not sure why, their practices are going to make it difficult for other families. Oh well.Brought the trees up and got them setup (not decorated yet) on Tuesday. Christina is of the opinion that decorating them should have already occured and is driving TheQ nuts , so I've been tasked with dusting and vacuuming the dining and living rooms today so we can proceed with decorating tonight. Gotta love Christina!

Morning. 58 degrees and sunny. Been watching the news on NBC, CBS and FOX. I'll let you guess who had more news and not BS. Vacuum the house today. Do some errands. Being half way lazy is fun. Good news here. Seems genetic Dr. thought Col [Frank V] may be born with SF. Last night tests results came back negative.
How could I forget. Sir. J was texting me every 5 minutes.

A new fresh pot! The aroma woke me up.
Chief, Really glad to hear about the good news regarding your grandson! My great niece has CF, she is only 2 1/2 yrs. That poor kid has been in the hospital as much as she has been out. Talk about a fighter she always has the nurses in tears, reminding them about the treatments she needs, and it isn't a problem. She knows that she needs them. Her resolve is unimagineable. Her twin brother was fortunate and didn't have it. The parents have gone through living hell all this time! (Her dad, uncle, grandad, are all firefighters, the grandad is Kay's brother.)
I made it through the dentist visit yesterday, many more to come numerous extractions planned, then partials. Going to cost significant bucks, hope the ROI works out! Probably be done in Jan/Feb..
Today going to work on cleaning track in the train room, while listening to tapes. Then in the PM/Evening, Kay wants to go to Knott's to see the lights and craft fair. The good part is that admission if free for Vets and spouse until 12/16. (have to pay for parking, no big deal)
Ray, You asked what i was doing for the weight loss, a combination of two things. Due to the Diabetes I take metaformin daily, a side-affect is weight loss. The other is life style changes; no soda, limited sweets and carbs. The Dr tells me the majority is due to the latter.
Roy, Hope the TN fire isn't near your place/vacation spot. And, yep I am planning on York this spring.

Very quiet at work today as everybody else was gone. Went to see "Fantastic Beasts....." tonight. Very good flick. Perhaps the best in the Harry Potter world. Marx display article in latest CTT is wonderful. Never realized Marx got into display railroads. Cold around here. I hope everyone has a good day.

65 today, sunny. Same for tomorrow with increasing clouds and then a lot of rain predicted for the weekend.
Did not get to scooter today and may try this weekend, but rain may obviate that. Busy week next week so next chance will be next weekend.
Mike C - thanks for the good report on the new HP style movie. I also really liked that Marx display layout article. Nice change from the norm.
Chief - great news!
Don - fires were only about 5 miles away so no problem. Smoke was terrible. Couldn't go out some days. Everything covered with a layer of ash. The big one in the recent news was SE of Knoxvillle. Hurricane force winds whipped a normally slow moving undergrowth fire into a NASCAR speed inferno. Had that wind happened to the fires in the Chattanooga area at the time, it would have been a massive disaster. Without a big wind the fires in TN did not move very fast and did not burn the trees much, mostly undergrowth/dead leaves. The drought only hit TN this year, so trees were not dried out like in CA. Last few years were abnormally wet. The areas are very hilly and very unaccessable.
Regarding York Don - you are giving the Chief too much time to prepare his defense.
Going to a huge monthly flea market tomorrow in Canton TX.
Watching the C'Boys try and eake one out over the Vikings.

Got word that a long lost uncle of mine passed away today. He was 87 and had been living in a nursing home in Washington, N.C. He was my mother's brother and was the baby in his family. Now that whole generation has passed on.
Talked to my doctor today. Xray showed that lungs were clear. Turns out my pain is coming from on old neck injury. The doctor is giving me prednisone for 5 days to start with. Can't take it any longer or you would have to wean yourself off of it.
I had a hard time sleeping last night but finally put on a heating pad on low and was able to sleep. They told me to start the medicine in the morning because it can keep you awake.
Don, can't say I've heard of Mediformin. Is that a prescription drug? I am border line diabetic myself but so far no special medicine.
We are having warm days and cold nights lately. I like it except for the short days this time of year.

Mornin' boys. A chilly 38 along the Patterson Creek cutoff. Did finish the North Pole layout (maybe I'll post on SPF). We ate at Texas Sizzlin' in LaVale, and the food was good. Not much planned for today, but may be needed to go up to folks' place to help them decorate (both feeling poorly). We really need to fire off some Christmas cards too.

Just got the kids off to school. I’m going to instal a phone line in my mother-in-law’s bedroom. She has some sort of heart monitor and it needed a hard wire phone line. After that going to do more decorating for Christmas. If it’s not raining I’ll decorate the outside.

Phish- I left the "flock" with my sister, back in Baltimore. She and her husband have really built up the layout I gave the nephew 2 years ago.
Aloha. Grey and cold. Winter is here though leaves are still on the trees and grass is green. I will join the vacumning brigade today and also clean the bathrooms (it's part of my working from home). We stay in just that part of TN on our summer trips to the SE. I understand everything is gone there. How terrible for those who lost their lives and those who lost homes and businesses! I hope to give Ivor's track a thorough cleaning in the next week too (with SJ's formula of rubbing alcohol, a rag and elbow grease.

Went to Knotts yesterday afternoon, it was interesting. Asked a crossing guard for the train if the "Goose" was running, (typical due to off season attendance.) And he replied, you mean the "Gray Goose"? I asked if he wasn't confusing it with the vodka, he said no its gray that's why its called the "Gray Goose", hmmm I suggested he might want to look at the large emblem on the side that said "Galloping Goose". Oh well. Enjoyed the visit, Knotts has two steam engines #340, and #41. Both the same. #340 had been in the round house for a rebuild, complete retubing of boiler etc. #41 is the one that I operated. Last spring 340 was finally finished after 6 years, and brought out, so that 41 could go through the same retrofit. (And chassis repair, believe me there are significant cracks.) 340 was in operation for 3 weeks and one of the pistons cracked, so its back in the shop and 41 back in operation. The other thing there has been a 100% turnover in personel on the railroad, wow!

There are SOOO many methods on cleaning track, and pros and cons of all. What I do is use a palm sander and "ScotchBrite", I like it because it really brings the surfaces back, and forces me to check all the tie down screws and alignment points. Then I vacuum the tracks to ensure no fibers are left in the track. Do the same with the switches just more care. (I see signal strength go up to "9's & 10's immediately, and the ScotchBright fits perfectly on the sander.)
Today, going to clean the pool, then continue with the track cleaning.

I think Shake and Bake is trying to hint, after he leaves Knotts, everything falls apart. I think he caused it.
We have several friends and a BIL in the hospital. It has not been a good year for some.
Don, it's amazing how fast they can steam qualify new people for that train. Hope they learn fast.
Wind is howling over here as we live right below the foothills. My pool was full of stuff this morning which I bailed out. I think it's filling up again now. I hear things hitting the roof. Probably something off a near by palm tree. I have an umbrella on the patio which is probably being torn to shreds even though it is down. I took my first dose of prednisone this morning. Feel a little better tonight but still have a way to go.
Jim, thank you for your prayer for my uncle. He lived a pretty hard life at times but he found the Lord in his old age. We are grateful for that.
Busy day at work. Got a lot done. Brisk weather for walk. Did some errands after work in Indy. Watched "Bad Moms" again at home. Funny movie, but definitely not for kids. Watched "Blue Bloods" as well, which if you watch Bad Moms you will see is quite a good match. I hope everyone has a good day.
Another winter gray day. First snow called for tomorrow. Doing some on-line Christmas shopping for Grandaughter Lexi.

Prayers for your BIL and friends SJ. Seems to get harder as you go along. I still am having many issues from that dive down the stairs. Sure takes a long time to recover these days. At least I can sleep without the drugs now. Hope you get there soon to Ray. That prednisone can be bad stuff.
Thought I better post a bit, just to let you all know I'm still around. Got the layout setup for Christmas with three Christmas trains running. Looks like we're in for a change in weather, it's been pretty mild so far this fall, but next week looks to be coldest so far this year with nights in the 20s. Hope everyone is enjoying today's football and that your team is winning.

We put together an impromptu holiday/dinner party this evening. The wife made lasagna and I made chocolate and apple pies. Friends brought appetizers, salad, and wine. Good time had by all!

Hello all
Another long night on the mountain.
My friend Ron passed away suddenly on Thurs. I found out Friday morning as I was getting ready to go back to work. He was a volunteer w/ the bus/trolley group and he and I became good friends and messed around w/ model trains. Some may remember the G-scale equipment I worked on for him. He also bought a Corvair Lakewood wagon from a club member recently. The last thing we did together was drive it on Sunday after completing some work. Apparently he had a stroke and then massive hemmorrage. He was an Air Force Vietnam vet, speech therapist, and avid historian. He will be greatly missed.
I got in the Marx 1666 cylinder smoker this past week. Looks and runs great. Tonight I found a 3820 boxcar and a 7" tin Santa Fe caboose on a 8-wheel chassis. These will go w/ the scissors/tilt coupler on the tender.
Will be going up to CO via train this Christmas. Need to buy the ticket soon.

Cloudy as usual with our first on the ground snow expected overnight. Not much but they will drop tons of salt anyway. Interesting game last night, congrats to Penn State on their win.
Were getting your Snow now SJ. They are calling for up to 5". We will see. Got wifey's and my boots out of the basement just in case there right for once.
Cat looked outside and headed for bed.
Set up the 252 crossing gate I got in that package deal to work on the kids side of the layout. Built two insulated track sections to run it. Kind of neat when Thomas goes by and it drops into place. Think they will like it.
Bob, so sorry about your friend. At least it was fast.
