Hello I recieved two 3462 lionel milk cars for Christmas and both reportedly worked when they were bought. I am trying to use them on the new fastrack operating track and neither seem to work. I double checked that I hooked the track up right but when I try to use the cars all they do is buzz and hum. One spit cans out once or twice but other than that, nothing. One of my friends said that it could be the new remote and to get a postwar remote. Another question is that if I bought a postwar remote, could it be rewired with the wires from the new track piece? Thanks in advanced!!
If they buzz or hum, then they are getting power. A new track section should not be necessary. What happens if you raise the voltage? Which transformer are you using? They do require a fair amount of power.
Finally, the mechanisms may need servicing (cleaning). A cleaing will often reduce their power requirements.

I'm not big on FasTrack but could the control track section be configured for seperate transformer power? If the milk car were running at full power the cans would be flying out the doors.
Yes the track section could be hooked up for a seperate transformer power. Yes the milk cans would be flying! It's so unusual for both of them to not work, even on full power.
I have opened them up and oiled parts I could reach and they still seem to not work. Would a new remote not help them?
Generally, I recommend against using any oil on a milk car mechanism. Over time the oil attracts dirt, and some oils will get gummy. When I service a milk car mechanism, I disassemble it as far as possible, and use solvent and a rag to clean the parts. Then metal polish, and reassemble. The pivot points can be given a tiny drop of oil, but that's it.
Oki will not use much oil on them then. On one of the cars it has a L-shape slot where a pin moves through when opening and I think this is causing the problem and on the part where the man sits there is a small dimple in the plate that is rubbing on the base of the car causeing it toleave a very dark scratch line and also causing a lot of friction is there a way to fix this?
Clean and polish the parts that rub against each other. Which milk cars do you have: 3462, 3472, 3482, or 3662?
he said 2 3462 not sure what he is doing wrong but sounds like he needs to literly take them apart and clean them before he oils them anymore.

Toy Trains FTW Ok. I'm not completly sure on how to take them apart though.

This should give you some idea: Lionel 3462 Service Manual
