Posted by bigdogjeff on Sunday, December 28, 2014 6:19 PM

hi all I am about to start building a new layout. So I picked a plan from Kent johnsonson plans from May 2006 a small ,simple, and amazingly sensible plan. So I will be taking pictures threw the whole project and be posting here on line.

Fine choice. Looks like an action packed plan.

Contribute some pics along the way, and tell us what you run into.

Hi Jeff,

Thanks for sharing that plan and keeping us posted on your efforts!   I really like that plan, too!  So many possibilities in a manageable space, with nice action!

     Good Luck!

Take care, Joe.

With the size layout I have what can I run at least 10 switches lionel o22 and accessories plus track will a mth 1000 do it or should I look bigger I run dcs so any suggestions will help.

The Z-1000, rated at 100 watts output, will be enough to power the switches and their bulbs, and one small single motored train set.

There is nothing wrong in using your ZW transformers. Rated at 275 watts input, they put out 180-210 watts continuously.

Yea I know I use to us it on old layout but looking for safer for my dcs and trains. Maybe if I use 2 mth 1000 one for switches and accessories and 1 for track.what about Lionel's bricks power just for dcs and track power

There is nothing inherently unsafe about the ZW, and the Z-1000 does not provide any level of safety for trains and DCS. The safety issue for electronics comes instead from the use of Transient Voltage Supression to clamp damaging over voltage spikes. The TIU has this protection.

If you are referring to circuit breaker protection, their function is to protect the transformers and wiring, not the trains & equipment.

Hi Jeff,

It looks GREAT!!!!   Looking forward to seeing it progress through its many stages.  You might consider a frame or guard rail around the edges to contain any derailments to the tabletop.

Take care, Joe.

SmileHi: I am starting to add on to an existing layout because I am having a problems with Lionel MTA Lirr set & lionel Candy Cane set running on existing tracks. So the new layout I will be using lionel Fast track. There seems to be a problem with  these cars on curves and switches... told this to Lionel got nowhere ....So now have to start building a new layout if I want to run these sets...If you want check out my layout on  YOU TUBE Trainman747 will keep you posted.  Anyone out ther with ideas for subways stations (Elevated) too send me pictures....

so I wired all the switches and Ucs tracks and soldered power to bottom of track and soldered tmcc wire to track. today I ran a conventional engine and a tmcc engine and all switches and Ucs tracks worked fine. Now I need to wire all the accessories and then I can start the fun stuff.

This weekend I am going to wire all lights and accessories then all wiring will be done for the most part. Then I am going to start building roads. Does any one have any good way to do this?

Congratulations on using foam!  I have used foam for over ten years and it works great.  You can cut ditches and make small mounds in foam easily then add paint, weeds and grass.Yes

Thats a great track configuration and use of space. I hope you consider doing a video of some runs once it's completed.
