engine won't hold it's dcc

any good guesses? my railking no. 30-1302-1 4-8-2 Mohawk was taken out of it's box after being packed away for a year.(battery was charged for 24 hours before packaging and again after I reset up the trains) I c add it to my dcs (MTH) and everything works well, but as s as I shut the engine down or it stalls out on a switch when I push start up I get "engine not on track". I have to delete the engine then re-add it. all of my eight other mth engines had no problems with a year of being packed away. I have only mth locos, mth power transformer and dcs system. I have also re-set engine to factory specs via dcs to no avail. anyone with a good idea whats wrong?

It sounds as if you may have a bad battery. Try starting it up in conventional and let it charge for a bit, kill the power and time the length of time that the sounds continue after you kill the power. If the battery is good the sounds should continue for 8 ~ 10 seconds after the power is turned off.

If the battery doesn't have sufficient power the eng id and other pertinent info will not be saved in the engines electronics consequently it will not appear as being on the track.

Early Protosound engines are notorious for this failure of the battery. Once the battery dies you cannot get them out of neutral. Replace the battery or even better, install a capacitor battery replacement.
