You could buy a 2008 Louisiana Steam Train Association (www.LASTA.org) calendar with a nice picture of Patti A. operating the grease gun to lube SP 745 (a steam 2-8-2) at Gramercy, LA.

There are some women out there, but admittedly railfans are 90% male. However, if you have been treated badly, there's a fair chance it was just an unfortunate experience with the group you got in with. I would encourage you to look for another, more accepting group, in your local area and/or online. What, specifically, do you want to do? Watch and photograph? Study and discuss? Maintain and operate? Ride?

Enter "Mookie" in the search box.  She posts to the Trains Magazine portion of this forum.

The model railroading ladies tend to gather at Tha Whistle Stop thread in Model Railroader Magazine's General Discussion area.

Hope this helps.

I am not a women but I actually know a lot of women who enjoy the railroad experience. There are a few on here also. If I were you, I would post this on a few of the other forums. I can't name any women but I know there are quite a few who frequent these forums since I have seen them on here.

BTW: Sign - Welcome [#welcome] to the forums. If you need people to talk to you have come to the right place.Thumbs Up [tup]

Enjoy the hobby!

Hello ...I am new to this...was just wondering if there was any women railroaders out there...I know that there are a lot of men but I have not had a good experience with ....I guess with getting them to help me....I guess it is because as my father use to say .."this is not for girls" but I have loved trains since the first time I was old enough to know I was riding on one....(we used to visit my grandmother every summer and we always took the train....then one year my brothers got their first model train and all I could do was watch and not touch....Now I have my own... just wanted to know if there was other women who love it as much as I do....
