The extreme head end of a DMU or EMU train - as long as I can see forward.
If I can also see the engineer's station, my cup runneth over.

!! Now, then there is the matter of motive power. The best possible power for a passenger train is a Lehigh Valley PA, with my next fave being a Central PA.

Ditto...The bar is nice too, but I always brought my own beer and food when I took Amtrak. Theirs is much too expensive, plus the bar is closed on the Cardinal all the way through West Virginia. There was always quite a line at the bar as the train approached Allegheny Tunnel, both entering and leaving the state!
Back when I was riding the South Shore home from high school (a 5-mile train ride according to the timetable), my favorite spot was the vestibule, which was tolerated by the train crew since it was a short ride on a suburban train. The door alongside the motorman's controls had a split sash which made looking out to the front or rear much easier.
