The base only blinks when it receives a command, and simply inputting an engine number won't cause the remote to send out a command. The light won't blink until you spin the throttle or input some other command(whistle, etc). 

In any case, though, if something's not working, it's more often the remote batteries in my experience. As they drop below a certain voltage, the throttle dies, and then all of the other commands. If I start having trouble, the batteries are usually the first thing I check. Before the throttle dies, though, you might try extending the antenna and/or getting closer. The signal strength also degrades as the batteries die.

when I press the eng and Number 1 I do not get a red light on the base and the engine will not start. It worked once,  Has not worked since, Am wondering if the cab-1 could be bad,have another tmcc engine and it starts sometimes, I get the red light on the base for everything but the engine Id, would appricate any help I can get, thanks, Ed.
