OK, New Haven was a diesel pioneer in New England. But, did they get the first diesel to operate in New England?

NH was an Alco customer from HH600 0900 to which unit. To put it another way, what was their last Alco?

They tended to buy from their traditional suppliers, so who was the first builder after Alco to make a sale to NH? It isn't who you'd might suspect.Big Smile [:D]

This builder tried very hard to sell straight electrics to NH, and managed to deliver the final new HN unit  (I feel plain awful about this clue)Disapprove [V]

So then, this head scratcher, NH dieselized western gateway Maybrook with which builder's units?

Nearly all of NH's pre-1956 cab/road units were delivered in Hunter Green, except for units delivered in 1947-8. What was their main color? And what were they? 

Lastly, NH bought its first EMDs (GP9s) in 1956. Now, its last new EMDs were...

1. No.  Boston & Maine's Flying Yankee preceeded the HH 600

2. The last ALCOs were the C425s

3. I believe it was GE along with Ingersol Rand

4. GE again with the U25B. (I would like to see photos of the E2B demonstrator on the NH)

5. ALCO with the FAs

6. ?

7. SW1200

Grading: No, 0900 was out and working in 1931, the "Flying Yankee" was a 1935 graduate of Budd. P.S. Yes, gang that's who B&M and MEC ordered the 6000 from. As to the Maybrook question I need to clarify it: whose units dieselized Maybrook yard?

Finally, the last EMD question is still open, too. The first SW1200 arrived while the test FL9s ( NH 2000-2001) were being de-bugged. That would be a real headache for all concerned.

On the sixth question, the locomotive and colors in question are Alco DL109's, painted green above, orange below with silver pinstriping.  NH also had 109's in the hunter green and yellow scheme of course.

 I have also located pictures of NH Alco FA's painted in this same orange and green scheme, so I might stand corrected on the above, though I know that some of the 109's were painted this way as I also have photographic proof.  Question is which units were built in 47-48?  That I don't know.

Time to close this one out. In addition to the 1947-8 FA/Bs, PAs were delivered in the orange with pinstripes scheme. The last new EMDs, for NH, were FL9s 2030-2059, EMDs last Fs until the FP/F45s nine years later. Class, you are being graded here!
