Cleaning Track
Posted by Anonymous on Tuesday, December 19, 2006 11:41 AM

After 3 years, I finally got to pull my Lionel Train out of storage.  It runs fine, but the track is dirty and 'crud' builds up on the wheels quite quickly.  I am guessing that normal track cleaning fluids would work fine, but I wanted to toss this out to the experts to get some different opinions.

Thanks in advance.

You might want to try the Classic TOY Trains heading. This is the forum for the real things.

You want to go to your home inproverment store. Get a plaster wall sander. then you get a pack or WHITE scotch fiber pads.

depending where you tracks are (elavation) (short or long handle).

Then use "GOOGONE" In the PLASTIC bottle.     NOT "GOOF OFF" in the steel can.

Goof off eats plastic and discolors paint.

After cleaning apply a small amount of Wala Clipper oil with a paper towel.

Use OXY CLEAN ACNE WIPES. The alcohol wipes away the dirt with ease and doesnt eat up the plastic, while it also coats the rails ever so slightly, allowing them to stay clean for a much longer time.

Howdy, Do what spinkjones52002 does and than get youself some denatured alcohol and a lent free rag and wipe down your tracks once a month or find a track cleaning car, oh! and the cars, don't forget to clean the car wheels, i'd say ever 3 months and the engines the same. Try Tony's trains and see if they have a cleaning car for 0 gauge, i got one for Ho and it works great, it's all brass.
