The" funnel" is at Folkston and one branch leads to Jesup. Everything on CSX going to or from Florida goes through Folkston. Not all of these go through Jesup. I think more than half will go to Waycross.

Amtrak runs after dark unless very late.  Lots of containers and unit coal trains.Average number of daylight trains is four per hour.[Personal experience] Anything may show up.

I have visited Folkston four times this year and will visit more in the future. It is about two hours from my town. By the way, this time of year expect anything wheather-wise. It can be 35 at night and 70 in the day. Just have fun.

I have a query similar to this on the TRAINS board:  if you have visited Jesup or Folkston in southern Georgia to see the trains, I'd love some feedback about the experience.  I won't hold you to the stats, but if at least a few of you could respond about frequency and types of trains, it would be something for me to go on.

For what it's worth we plan to be there for a couple of days between Christmas and New Year's Eve.  We're also a little worried about the availability of accommodations, especially since we don't camp out.

Please let me hear from you!

PS:  What handheld scanner frequencies are best?
