Thanks Poppa_Zit - slight typo with the wheel arrangement
I see you're at Chicago? I spent some time there from 2000 to 2003 - nice town. Also visited Geneva and Aurora over weekends, travelling on the Metra. Did some train watching at Downer's Grove one Saturday. Would not mind returning there someday...
The Big Boys' wheel arrangement was 4-8-8-4.
The top of the walking ledge on UP 4017 at the National Railroad Museum in Green Bay looks like more like silver/metallic than matt black in two photos I took.

I am busy building a plastic kit of the UP Big Boy 4-6-6-4 loco number 4006. In order to be as accurate as possible w.r.t. the color scheme, I need guidance as to the color of the ledge running alongside the loco, from the front to the cab. I notice on some photo's on the web that the edge of this ledge is colored silver/metallic, but I am unsure whether the topside of the ledge is matt black or also silver/metallic. Any assistance will be appreciated.
Thanks!Jacques
