The Tenshodo 'dip job' paint is not very correct. Even during the
last decade of steam on the GN, the smokeboxes were varied shades
of graphite-some lighter-some darker. The lower parts of the fireboxes
also had this coloration. Both areas are very high-heat and paint doesn't
last there or protect as well as graphite.

my understanding is that the final paint scheme for steam on the GN (perhaps the last 5-10 years) was a basic black.

Hellow guys, another question:

maybe someone will say better post at MR - but the required info is of prototye.
As far as I know Tenshodo delivered GN N-3 engines in an all-black paint sometimes - that means complete black including smokebox and firebox. My question is if that is correct/ some of the real engines were painted like that, maybe also with red cab roof.
Hope you can help.

Thanks and greetings.
