If you could change todays rr to the past & the way you remember it, how would you do it? The most early I can recall any thing rr was 1965. Here is how the industry would be in 2006: no mergers, no Amtrk, 40 ft boxcars, although not a fan of cabooses I would have them back anyway, full crews w/a fireman, every town had a depot w/an agent, motive pwr would be A&B F's on frts, E's on psgr, GP 7,9, 20 &35's for the rest. Yd pwr NW & SW, local dispatching w/no microwave radio, talking w/DS on the old trackside phones and no paksets-all hand signals. Finally my two favorire rr paint jobs on engs--Mopac would be solid blue, SF frt yellow & blue, psgr red & silver, yd black & white.
