Cranes
Posted by Anonymous on Thursday, February 23, 2006 2:26 PM
I recently saw a picture of a rerailment of a Algoma Central Locomotive. In the picture they were using CN cranes. Those can not be steam powered? Can anyone tell me about them. How old? location?
Thank you for the help.

I believe CN does most of it's wreck cleanup with these 13 hi-rail cranes

10771 Pettibone 1977 110 ton Thunder Bay ON
10791 Holmes 1979 100 ton Kamloops BC
10792 Holmes 1979 100 ton Joffre PQ
75762 Holmes 1976 75 ton Halifax NS
125831 Isringhausen 1983 125 ton Port Mann BC
125841 Isringhausen 1984 125 ton Sastkatoon SK
125842 Isringhausen 1984 125 ton Melville SK
130861 Kershaw 1986 130 ton Winnipeg MB
130881 Kershaw 1988 130 ton Capreol ON
130891 Spandeck Mantis 1989 130 ton Montreal PQ
150901 ??????? 1990 150 ton Moncton NB
150931 Kershaw 1993 150 ton Prince George BC
150941 Spandeck Mantis 1995 150 ton Edmonton AB

If it was an older crane, can you post the number ?

Steam powered wrecking cranes may well be extinct by now and diesel-powered wreckers are probably rare birds. Most wreck clean-up these days is performed by Hulcher or other contractors.
The daily commute is part of everyday life but I get two rides a day out of it. Paul

Is there any other rerailment company other then Hulcher in the US? Or is this basically the main supplier of wreck clean up.
