When did the Sportsman carry a sleeper from New York to Detroit? I've never seen any evidence to indicate that the Detroit equipment originated anywhere but in Virginia.

Sorry I just gave you the wrong information on the Sportsman I was thinking of the George Washington. My records indicate that the Sportsman carried no Louisville Sleepers.
The FFV did carry a New York - Louisville sleeper in both directions.
I should also mention the through sleeping cars to Chicago on the GW originally operated via the NYC from Toledo. It wasd probably 1958 or 1959 before they were switched to the NYC at Cincinnati and ran in the James Whitcomb Riley. Will have to do some further digging on the actual year the switch occurred.

The Sportsman ran a Louisville - Washington Sleeper in each direction as well as a Louisville - Richmond sleeper in each direction.

I always thought that was pretty neat, a sleeper starting out on the Pennsylvanina and ending up on the New York Central.

Were the sleepers from Louisville also on the Sportsman? That is what my memory is, but I could be wrong.

The Sportsman operated a through New York - Detroit Sleeper The FFV operated through New York -Hot Springs and New York Sulphur Springs Sleepers and later after 1958 the George Washington began a through sleeper between New York and Chicago that was forwarded west of Cincinnati by the NYC in the James Whitcomb Riley. Sometime after that a second Washington - Chicago Sleeper operated for a short time.

One of the three C&O name trains had a NY - Chicago sleeper than ran on both the PRR and NYC and also had sleepers to Detroit. Was this the Sportsman, or the FFV?

Hey, thanks! The best I'd ever come up with for it was a notation somewhere that it was an all-Pullman operation with an observation car on the end. That sort of contradicted with what I'd heard from Chessie's Road or somewhere, that the C&O either never had or never had enough of head-end cars to keep from sticking one or two heavyweights up front for baggage and/or mail.

'preciate your help!
