Favourite Heavyweight train of the 20ies???

My vote goes to the 1929 Trans Canada Limited. In my eyes there´s nothing nicer. The warm, wine red colour of the cars, All Pullman status, the fascinating landscape, and 2966 miles of routing. That was an adventure! Unfortunately, this train lasted only till 1931 because of passenger loss due to Great Depression.

I voted for the EMPIRE BUILDER which was inaugurated in 1929. It was a superb train from the beginning and operates today under the guise of Amtrak over much the same route as the 1929 edition.

Not listed but transcontinental if you figure DC (on the Atlantic) to NO (on the Gulf of Mexico) and superior (IMHO) to those listed would be the 1925 Crescent Linited in 2 tone green w/ a Ps-4 on the point also in green w/ gold trim.

Because the De Luxe ran only between 1911 and 1917, so it´s not a train of the 20ies.

Both the AT&SF DeLuxe and the 20th Century should have been included and one or the other would have gotten my vote. Probably the 20th Century because of consistantly matched equippment, even when running in multiple sections, and the appearance at the end of the 20's of the J1 Hudsons.

It may not have been transcon, but of 1920's HW trains how about the Merchants Limited?

If there ever was a first class train, the ML was IT - all perfectly kept Pullman Parlors and two diners on modern roller bearings on a perfectly kept schedule.

Once again, the ATSF DeLuxe is not a train of the 20ies, since it was discontinued in 1917.
To trainboy H16-44: I also wonder how the Trans Canada Ltd. could loose. The Empire Builder was a good train, but still too far away from the TCL!!!

Although not a transcon I belive the Daylight Limited deserves special mention, no other SP train wore Pearl Grey or had one off custom built 72' long Pullman lounge observations. The motive power was equally interesting, MT or Pacifics. The Coach Yard recently announced an HO release, though I model in S these days, might be too tempting to resist...

Tbe Olympian because of its extensive use of electric power. Enjoy the scenery from the back platform or a vestibule without cinder in the hair.
