Classic Trains cover price

I saw a copy of Classic Trains on the rack today. Did the price go up recently? I know "railfans" like color photos on slick paper but $7.50? Ouch! Guess what! It stayed on the rack!

Yep, that sure is steep! I don't know if it is still offered, but after my second issue of Classic Trains, I signed up for a 3 year subscription, and saved big $$$.

And a movie in a theatre costs? And a night in a bar/lounge with friends costs? At least I can keep my Trains and Classic Trains magazine to re-read and even pass on to friends. I can't do that with the movie or the drinks.

This most recent issue of Classic Trains was a "special issue" dealing with the B&O, and the cover price was increased...I'm sure it will go back down with the next issue. As Todd says, subscribing is the way to go.

I suspect that next month's Trains, dealing with Chicago, will also have a higher cover price.

P.S. I decided to subscribe to Trains when the cover price increased from 50 cents to 60!

I just received my bill for Trains Magazine and it went from $35 to $40 annually. Still cheap entertainment.

Jenny, if the screen name is accurate, I would assume that you are a female. It's awfully hard to find a good woman that actually likes trains. So, if you aren't halfway across the country, perhaps this 38 year old batchelor could use some of his extra money saved on subscriptions to buy you dinner and drinks sometime. ( I live in Michigan).

Oh Todd! What a nice invitation. I would love to have dinner and drinks with any one of you, but it would be very expensive since I would have to bring my husband along. He is my companion on our training trips and reads his magazines and books while I entertain myself. We are in Nebraska which most of the country thinks of as being on another planet.

But I thank you for thinking of me. It just made my whole day!

And people think us train people are afraid to ask questions :)! Ill be honest, I am very straped for$. I only purchace mags that realy catch my eye or that intrest me. Acualy most of my model trains and even the mags I buy are used. I have thought seriously about suscribing, but when I buy used mags for $2 or less it makes it harder to justify an comitment.

It was either in the late 50's or 60's, you could buy a LIFETIME subscription to Trains (and I think MR offered it, too) for a mere 100 dollars, (what a 3 year subscription costs now).

But I didn't think I would live that long, and I never thought to factor in inflation!
