Steam Locomotive Bells
Posted by Anonymous on Monday, December 12, 2005 11:16 PM
I have a question for anyone that may know the answer. I have tried the places that deal with them proffessionally and they do not have an answer. How does one research and find out what the numbers mean cast into the yokes and cradles of steam locomotive bells?? There must be a way of dating them. What do the letters, if any mean? Where does one find the information. I have searched and searched the net for information on steam locomotive bells and have found very little. There is lots of information on diesel bells, only one or two manufacturers. Anyone with an answer would be appreciated......

Call a foundry Kloppenberger(spelling) is one in Davenport Iowa that casts bells. Maybe they can help you out with the numbers on the castings. Good luck.
