I went with the AC-9 as a coal-burner, SP's only articulateds that weren't cab forwards. If you consider SP's AC's to be Yellowstones with the tender on the nose, I would have voted for SP's AC-10/11/12.
The daily commute is part of everyday life but I get two rides a day out of it. Paul

Well, having been in the cab of one of those beasts and cleaning them, i can tell you they are absolutly mosters. i LOVE the compressors on the nose of the locomotive.
The DMIR's M4 class Yellowstone actually had MORE tractice effort than Big Boy!

Mechanical Department  "No no that's fine shove that 20 pound set all around the yard... those shoes aren't hell and a half to change..."

The EM1 was among the smallest of the Yellowstone (2-8-8-4)
type ever built, but nothing larger would have conformed to the
Baltimore and Ohio's tight clearances. Except for some minor
staybolt problems, stemming from the uneven distribution of
water in the long boiler on steep grades, the EM1 was an
exceptionally fine running and reliable locomotive.

EM1s had roller bearings on all axles, a feature which made
them so free-rolling that, with the cylinder cocks open and on
level track, one of these behemoths could be pushed by three men.

Well, I truely love these locomotives, but there is no way I would call them beautiful. Impressive, beastly, massive, hansome, or several other descriptions but not beautiful.

The NP Z-5 and DM&IR are really close in apperance - I think the winged logo on the tenders of the DM&IR tip the scale in their favor.
