The locomotives where one of the few good things that keept theyr qualty during comunism too! By the way, with a steam locomotive manufactured during the '30's at "Malaxa (23 August=August the 23rd, after 1989 called Faur) Plants from Bucharest, the route betwen Bucharest and Constantza (225 km=140.62 miles) was made in 2 and 1/2 hours, just like today!!! [wow](well, the locomotives where copyes of German and Austrian locomotives[:D]-we copyed them with the agriment of theyr plants) The machines used to built locomotives where stole by the Russians after WW2. [:(]
We also made at "Malaxa" Plants DMU (Disel Motor Units=Motorailers), with lycence bought from the Hungaryan Plants "Ganz" (the first models had German and Hungaryan diesel engines)-I think the Hungaryans bought the licence from the Germans; those DMU's where good-some of them run at 100 kph (62.5 mph!) which was quyte a big speed in the '30'-'50's Romania-Ceausechu even had one!!!; they even use those diesel engines to 5 heavy trucks manufactured by the same plant (trucks with disel engines where mass produced in Romanian begening from 1969!!! [:0]). When I was kid I dreamed to get a ryde in one of those DMU's ; now I'm almost 23 and hadn't done yet. [:(] I hope next year...

Nokia2010, thank you for sharing these fine pictures with us. They are educational for many of us living in the West. Happy Holidays, Theodorebear.

Nokia I'm a streetcar and trolleybus fan wonderfull site and I do agree with Ted on that model job. If you think of it why not pop over to the Our Place thread Ted and I are there quite regularly,I'd just bet that you would fit in quite well with the group there.

I enjoyed the pictures very much! I'm always interested in railways from around the world, especially steam! I have read about the narrow gauge Romanian forestry railways and it was nice to see some photos of them. Thanks for sharing this with us!

Here are streetcars (tramvaie), trolleybuses (troleibuze), autobuze (buses) and other vehicles (alte vehicule) used by R.A.T.B. (Regia Autonoma de Trasnport Bucuresti)-The Autonomus Administration of Bucharest Transportation:
http://ratb.stfp.net/
Unfortenley, because the rail is in bad condition they want to close the only streetcar line in Barsov [:(!]
In Constanta they replace the 100 streetcar line and almsot all of the troelleybus lines with "MAZ" buses-the one with the big ideea was the Mayor of Town of Constanta, Radu MAZare.
